No, not Christmas. And no not even the semi-annual sales at Nordstroms. It's Dine about Town time!! For those of you who haven't experienced it it's just like Restaurant Week in Boston. For a 3-course mea, you pay only $21.95 for lunch and $34.95 for dinner. The restaurants that are participating are usually a lot more expensive than this, so you really get a good deal!
I didn't take advantage when it came around during the summer time last year so I think I'm making up for it. Yesterday I ate lunch at Sutro's at the Cliff House, and I was just happy about the view alone. I got a window seat and spent my afternoon staring out the window at the crashing waves. Lucky too that yesterday was our last nice weather day. It started raining today :( Anyways, I had cream of broccoli soup with a yummy cheese profiterole in the middle of it. I also had steak frites which were so good but I couldn't finish. I had to eat lunch in a rush because of a meeting, so I took the rest home. But there was still dessert - banana pudding which was SO good - so by the time I left I was so full I almost had that "I'm so full I need to throw up" feeling, which is only reserved for Christmas at the G's.
Tomorrow I'm going to Oola with Sierra, and the next dinner will be either Rue st Jacques on Friday or Cassis on Sunday...all depends on my friend and reservations. Next Thursday I'm going to Lingba lounge with friends, just so Greg can come along too since it's Thai. There are still so many places I want to hit up, but my wallet and my pants size is only so small. I really want to try Jeanty at Jacks at some point, but only for the tomato soup and I think it's only on the DAT menu for lunch Mon-Friday. I'll just have to go back and try it on my own.
I love yummy food!

Working
I think everyone in the country has today off but me. At least that's what it feels like! I had two cancellations today which makes this much easier, but it still stinks to work.
Had a great weekend, it was another beautiful weather weekend. On Friday I went to bed so early, I think 10pm. I had a 14-mile run on Saturday that I was really nervous about. The run was in Mill Valley, the site of last season's awful run. This one wasn't too bad, but again I should have stopped 2 miles earlier than I did. The last two miles were really hard and my IT was hurting bad. I'm not sure if it was because of my new shoes or the hard hills we had.
When I came home, Greg had the kitchen all cleaned up and it looked great. Our kitchen gets really disastrous during the week and he is really nice to clean it up on Saturdays. I also had a beautiful bouquet of flowers waiting for me. Because it was sunny out we spent sometime up on the roof drinking mimosas and reading. We went to our friend Heather and Erik's house for a yummy dinner and hockey watching, much to the girls' chagrin. It's great to have friends who live very close where you don't have to drive or take a cab to their place.
Sunday was mellow. I got an awesome massage from Rachel that I think really healed my sore legs. Greg got us some Ike's sandwiches and man do I love that place!! I do think they have skimped a little bit and their sandwiches have gotten significantly smaller. I used to be stuffed to the max after eating just 1/2, but not so much anymore. THey're still great though. The weather wasn't as nice as Sat, so we stayed in and watched football. Then we went to see Slumdog Millionaire. It's as good as everyone says. I don't think I've seen a movie where I've been as captivated the whole time as this one. There were really no slow, boring meaningless parts. And the ending was really good. I think this will be a movie I'll have to buy when it comes out on DVD.
And now I have to work. Greg gets another beautiful day off. Boo!

Update #3
Whewww....so glad that ordeal is finally over. It was looking rather iffy, but I finally got sent home.
Just as I was posting my resolutions yesterday, we got called into a court room. It was 2pm. The case was a case of vandalism. The first 18 people got brought up to the box and the judge and lawyers started asking questions.
I know the whole point of this is to get a feel of what kind of biases the potential jurors may or may not have, but I felt like there was a lot of dilly-dallying around. I know I've been watching too much Law and Order lately when I feel that the real-life law system seems so unorganized. Lots of hmmms, ummms, and waiting around. The judge mentioned something about graffiti as a part of vandalism, and that sparked a whoooolllle long debate about people's personal feelings and experiences with graffiti. I also think San Francisco is chock full of people who want to talk about themselves and love hearing themselves talk. This one lady just went on and on about her experiences with graffiti and the judge finally said "enough...let's move on" - and she still went on going and even said "No, but wait I just want to tell you about this one time...."!!
And the kicker was, we find out an HOUR later that this case has nothing to do with graffiti! Are you for real? We definitely could have shaved off 40 minutes of talking... what a waste of time.
Because of the waste of time and dilly-dallying they didn't finish and we had to come back today at 10am. I was worried I'd still get picked. They ended up dismissing about 12 people and luckily I wasn't in the 12 that came afterwards. Just when they finally picked a jury we all breathed a sigh of relief....but then they had to pick 2 alternates. Luckily I wasn't in the pool of alternates and now we all are free to go home. I kinda wanted to stay just to see the case, since I feel like I've heard so much about it.
There was a big to-do because Traci Des Jardins was in the pool of jurors. She is the owner of Jardiniere, a place I've always wanted to go to but can never afford. She seemed like a nice lady and it was funny to see a lot of people sucking up to her. And apparently there was another guy who was a US prosecuting attorney, who had worked for President Carter and owned a firm where he managed prosecutors. He was on the alternate pool and mentioned that he's been called to jury duty, but has never been allowed to serve. I'm sure he's uber-biased. Another guy who was a defense attorney got dismissed, and a few people who expressed reservations about police officers and hate crimes were as well. I think the jury selection was so hard because there was an emotional aspect to it. It wasn't just a black and white crime, there were allegations that sexual orientation was the basis behind this crime and that brought a lot of dialogue about our own personal feelings towards this issue.
Overall, this was a very interesting but time-consuming experience. Not only am I spoiled with the succinct-ness of Law and Order but now that I've been using DVR, I've been more spoiled. I wish there was a 30-second fast forward button for real life. Can you imagine? Then when that one lady would have been going on her diatribe about graffiti it would be like "blah blah blah and this one time there was graffiti..." - SKIP, SKIP, SKIP, SKIP - "...and that's all I have to say about that."

Bored
UPDATE 2. I still haven't been called and it's after lunch. Ugh, I hope this gets over soon.
I just pulled these out of an old blog and realized that I didn't revisit them to see how I did. These were my New Years resolutions of 2008....how did i do??
- New Years resolutions
* Be more conscientious of what I choose to eat and drink, and try to plan meals ahead so that I don't eat out as much ......mmmm...I'd give myself a B- on this one. I think I still ate out quite a bit but certainly not as bad as before. And I think I really improved on this goal towards the later end of the year
* Think twice about impulse buys and apply the art of "delayed gratification".....mmm....I'll say a B. I think the amount of crazy expensive clothes-buying days have really reduced, but I still kinda do some impulse buying. And again, I got better towards the end of the year. * Try to track my finances so I actually figure out where my money is going. I may or may not save but perhaps visually seeing $100/month wasted on scones and coffee will deter me from spending it....I will give myself a C on this one. I tried using one of those trackers but it really didnt help. the notifications came 2 days later, which didnt' help at all.
* Continue with date nights once a week with Greg if we can spare it ....I'll give myself a B. We started out great but with marathon training, school, and the realization that we were spending way more $$ than we needed to, we cut back. But our quality time together has really increased throughout the year.
* Be more thoughtful about my actions and words I think I've been a lot better so I'll give myself an A-
* Try to be less selfish, more giving, and make a quiet impact in the world (or at least the bay area)....I think this deserves an A too. I've definitely been less selfish and more giving. I also think raising over $5k and running a marathon for LLS helped too. All in all a very worthy experience!!
Overall I'll give myself a B for 2008 resolutions. Not too bad! If I still don't get called into jury selection I'll make some for 2009.

Back in this piece again
I'm back at the Hall of Justice for jury duty again. I don't know why it is, but I feel like I have served more days on jury duty than most. Greg never gets the letter to serve, and this is like the 5th time I've gotten the letter in the past three years. How annoying.
Lots has happened since my last post but I'm feeling too blahhhh to write about it. In a nutshell, training for this marathon blows and I don't think I have the desire to run another one after Napa. WE'll see how long this feeling lasts. Had a great Christmas holiday. So far, I think I've been spending less in the new year. Our apartment is freezing, but we love our TV. I don't know how Greg and I have lasted this long without getting DVR, what an amazing invention. Job is pretty good but it's been hard to get back into the swing of things. It's depressing that my next holiday is not until the end of May. What a tease.
UPDATE: The girl next to me is watching More Tales of the City on her computer. I'm tempted to look over her shoulder. I think I know all the words.
I am also very happy for the return of the Vanilla Tea Latte at Starbucks. It's not the same as the original Tazo Vanilla Tea latte, but it's still pretty good and much better than an espresso latte. Yum.

Happy boxing day!
I have not been good at keeping up with this lately. I've been home and surprisingly pretty busy. It seems like every day but yesterday (Christmas Day) I've been running around and meeting up with people or doing errands.
I picked the worst week to be here. I got in Friday at 1am, and the snow was really starting to pick up. It took us probably 40 minutes to drive home when it is normally 20 minutes. It was freezing subzero temps for a few days with snow off and on. On Tuesday it warmed up but there was another blizzard, one which made the roads very icky to drive on. I can't remember the last time I had to drive in a snowstorm, I honestly think it was high school days. I was super nervous, and sure enough, an old lady passed me on the highway haha.
It's been great meeting up with old friends, a few whom I haven't seen in years. I've been loving seeing my cute little niece Molly - hopefully I'm not a stranger to her anymore. I babysat her this morning for a few hours and we had a great time. It's nice taking care of kids when it's not my job!
It kinda sucks that the holiday was so late in the week, it makes me feel like this week has gone by so fast. I am going into the city for the first time tonight and have to leave in the morning. I just feel like I don't have any time to do anything. I am not excited to work, but I am very excited to be back with Greg...I miss him so much.
I don't know if it's me or it's the holidays but what sticks out the most about this week is going to the mall/Target/etc and hearing tons of parents screaming at their kids. I suppose kids are extra bratty around Christmas. And I suppose my patient population in San Francisco is different - I don't really see anyone over the age of three. But it was weird. Lots of yelling and impatience.
Overall, Christmas was a lot of fun. The window right in front of our tree was leaking and we discovered it right before our Christmas party. That was a mini-disaster but we got it taken care of. At our party we played Mexican Train dominoes and that was a lot of fun. Christmas day I lounged around and watched a Law and Order marathon, then went to Antonette's house for dinner, something I have been doing for the past 7 years. So yummy and lots of fun.
I come back Sunday afternoon, back to my cold cold apartment. I got a new plush blanket that I'm excited to use, one more conducive to sharing. I hope everyone else had a great week, and quality time off of work!

phew
I just saw 22 kids in 3.5 days, I'm not excited to head to cold weather but am very excited to actually have real heat in my house, I am worried about waiting for 10 hours in the airport, I am hopefully my flight will leave and arrive on time and safely, and like the sometimes great sometimes not so great K.West proclaims, "I'm coming home again".
Here's to a fun week!
